    Hello,

I would like to know why I keep smelling gas in my car, it is coming through the heat vents, when I turn my car on,then the smell will go away, but sometimes it gets strong and I have to roll the windows down to air the car out.I have taken it in to have it checked and so far no answers.
    any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sammie

You have a possibly dangerous situation. I would suggest searching for the leak asap.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    sammie,

There are many possible causes for this issue. It may be an exhaust leak, a seal, fuel pump, fuel injectors, carburetor and/or fuel lines. These are just suggestions and are not meant to be a diagnosis. An issue like this is difficult to diagnose over the internet.

I encourage you to have a certified technician inspect the vehicle. They should be able to offer additional information, and repair option(s), after a physical inspection of the vehicle.

If the gas smell is only detectable when the vehicle is not started, it may be more difficult to duplicate. You may want to consider leaving the vehicle with the technician, so they have a chance to duplicate the issue.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me.

    Please keep us posted.

You make GM customer service look dumb.

When was the last '97-'08 carbureted Grand Prix made? Or the last Carb'd '97-'08 3800?

    Bluegtp91,

I apologize for any confusion. I was merely trying to offer suggestions for the cause of the problem. The year of the vehicle was not provided, nor was it listed in their profile, that is why I also provided that as an option.

Well the last carburated engine was in the 80's. And I don't THINK they had grand prixs then unless there was a late 80's one.

I was merely trying to offer suggestions for the cause of the problem.
As have we. But ud rather him pay an arm and leg just for diagnosis when some of us could probably find it quicker than the guys at ur dealership.

Um the Grand Prix started in the 60's bro. Unless you ment wbody's then yes they started the wbody's in the late 80's.

And GMCustomerService guy this is the wbody general tech section so its kinda a no brainer as to weather or not his car has a carb.

And I would have to agree to check the orings on the fuel rail they are notorious for leaking. I doubt its an exhaust leak as it would smell like exhaust not gas.

lol i know about those gp's in the 60's. no body talks about those on here. like you said its all wbody talk.

i was just saying that the earliest ppl talk about is like a 91. and even that is fuel injected.

and thanks scotty i did not know that. must have skipped that gen. i actually like it. looks sick.

but this is like the 5th time ive seen this gm customer service guy post these bogus comments. one of em said something like "all though these are good suggestions, they're not from certified technicians. you should take you vehicle to a certified gm dealer..." blah blah blah. i'm thinking how the hell does he know if we're certified or not? lol if i can dig it up i'll show you guys.

Possible fuel pressure regulator. I just changed the one on my mom and dad's venture because it was leaking and causing a fuel smell through the vents.

yeah bps I think its just their way of trying to get people to go to a hm dealer and paying way to much to fix things. Like $800 for replace ment hub bearings......

The fumes of gas ignite quickly and easily with a simple spark. I call that a pretty big deal.
