Hi just cut the mufflers off my gt and at first it sounded great. Had a nice deep roar in park and reving up to the limiter. Put it in drive and go around the block and it sounds absolutely horrifying. In low rpm's it's sounds decent but approach 3000 and there is an obnoxious loud ticking clanking somthing noise that I can't stand. It sounds like its coming from the front end but I really can't be sure. I just clamped the straight pipes on right where I cut off the mufflers. Should I even bother welding the pipes on to se if a good seal would stop this ticking? Or just have the mufflers welded back on? Btw I had my resonator removed a while back I don't know if this makes a difference.

Your exhaust is jacked up lol.Get a nice long glasspack/resonator put it where your old one was. And i feel you on the bad sound with no mufflers i have the same setup. But as far as the ticking goes it sounds like you have an exhaust leak somewhere; find it, fix it. Welding is best.

lol. "loud ticking clanking" is a pretty perfect description of a 3800. You've done a silly thing, sir.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

Cost all depends on the shop/guy. If you let him laugh at you, he will likely cut you a break. Me..i'd go in and say "I've made a big mistake, please help me"
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Could try seeing how a large resonator makes it sound, could help with getting rid of the high rpm rasping. Just my .02

Do we not need some sort of back pressure?

~1psi is normally sufficient for proper scavenging. you need to worry about velocity, which too big will ruin. dont worry about back pressure.

We don't have v8's and our 3800's don't sound like a V8 with any exhaust. Why does everyone post, I took all the mufflers off my car and Rev'd to the limiter.

    Ugh...

Re-install some sort of muffler and put in a 30" glasspack where the res was.

So the loud ticking noise was my effing flex pipe on my downpipe is broken. Will just be upgrading to the zzp downpipe with magnaflow cat and u-bend delete. Just had my mufflers welded on today hoping to hear a normal sound again but nope.

Ya any ticking sound is an exhaust leak.
