headers ftw
Oh ok yeah if I do the cam it won't be huge don't plan on doing any head work...would maybe upgrade springs about it....have no interest in going intercooled hence why I wanted to do the NIC cam...doubt I will ever need a bigger TB...this is my daily driver and I want it somewhat mild...for what I plan on doing I think the Plog will work just fine
than what are you going to do about the rear mani??
Honestly guy since you're doin a cam, a nic cam at that id just do headers. If you would have went 1.9 rockers then plog/downpipe would be doable still. But youll want that extra flow since youre opening things up anyway. Headers really are cheap and worthy so just go for it.
I think the only thing I need is a PLOG with the current setup in my sig, and no need for a downpipe as I don't have a ubend.
I started out when headers were expensive. Got ported manifolds, they hardly amount to anything. Totally worthless IMO, they don't take care of the true front manifold restriction and the rear porting...it's a joke. I had a big build with headers and loved them. Now I planned on barely modding a car and plog/dp fell in my lap. I'm using them w/o worries. The rear manifold isn't a restriction in our exhaust. The crossover isn't a restriction either. The main issues with our exhaust are front manifold and the u bend. Fix those and you are pretty close to having headers. If you go big, go headers otherwise.. plog/dp if you can do it for the same or less.
Install. I never use a lift or ramps. A lift would be nice, but if you are doing the install on ramps...you might save more time and effort if you used jackstands and lowered the cradle a touch.
thanks for all the replies a month and half later guys lol i probably will go with the plog/dp because money will always be tight and i dont plan on going further than a 3.4 set up. if i do, well then i guess i'll have to sell those 2 things and buy headers. so if anyone knows someone selling a catted dp i'm looking to buy one within the month!
Regardless of how big or small your build is sd's are cheaper new. Personally, I know I'm not going past a 3.4 setup and a plog+dp would be ok but why spend more money for less flow? But if I got lucky enough for a plog+dp to "fall in my lap" I'd be good with that.
Its all about the benji's
what happens when you want to keep the stock manifolds so you can create a boatload of torque. with a plog and downpipe, i dont think you'd 'outflow' them even on a heads/cam setup.
Yeah I keep going back and forth about it...did some math and even if I sell my dp and buy speed daddy then fix the issues I would be into it the same if I bought a brand new Plog right now which would be alot easier...but then headers do flow more...blah blah blah...I just really want to see some dyno numbers with plog+dp because if its less then 10whp with a mild setup I could care less
I believe the test car on zzp made 10whp from the plog alone so figure another 5-7whp from the downpipe based upon other mods. Im N/A but i do have the plog and a 3in downpipe. After i did the downpipe my car actually gained some low end power with some slight top end pull and the plog helped my low end-mid range power.
i wouldn't go lower than a 3.6 on any plog/dp setup.
i have a plog and DP, im going to a 3.6 pulley but im pretty sure you can get away with a 3.5 with no KR if you have the right mods
I would say headers all the way $200 for a set, they are easy to put on it takes about 2 hours and it'll outflow any Plog/DP you could have. Also, to the guy who make the torque comment, what slicks are you driving around on everyday? I can't even floor it below 30 without lighting the tires up, I'm pretty sure I'm good on TQ with my headers.
im pretty sure i would be too since i'd be running a smaller pulley than 95% of people out there, but whats wrong with making gobs more? based on my driving style and what i do with the car i dont need slicks and i never will. i wouldnt even care to see what a pig heavy, fwd car would do on the dyno or at the track. it's all about the streets, broham.
my only reasoning behind this is that i dont like ANY of the headers on the market right now. none of them. im not just gonna buy a set of headers because they are cheap. im done being a child with no money. i get to choose what i want based on quality because i can.
Yeah the SD ones install quickly, could use a good set of v band clamps and have lasted me since the first group buy without rusting. That's good enough quality for me vs. the Plogs that have a tendency to crack on everyone.
So you may lose a little down low, but the gains above 4000 rpm all the way to my 6200 shift point are worth it esp since a stock l67 only needs more power higher in the band anyway.
And for those of us who are trying to make our cars a slightly skinnier pig the headers were almost 30lbs lighter than my stock manifolds and downpipe thru the u-bend.
I'd love to see you install SD's in two hours.
Sounds good bring me a car without everything rusted together, the headers, a rachet strap and a 6 pack
Who said anything about a plot? I'm gonna just have a downpipe car..
