Help with fuel filter

So I decided to finally change my fuel filter on my 04 grand prix. After jacking up the car and getting under there I see that the fitting going into the filter is partially rounded off and I can't get my fuel line wrench on it. Does anybody have any tips or tricks to getting this off? I don't want to round it off more by using a regular open end wrench, definitely don't want to put some vice grips on it if I don't have to.

Smaller wrench, or vise grip... not a lot of options. You can get a "repair" kit from a parts store that comes with a new fitting, a few inches of line and a compression fitting.

I'll try the vice grips then and if that doesn't work then I'll cut the line and use the fuel line repair with the compression fitting.

Often I'll put vise grips on both that and the filter. Then spin the filter, not the line nut. Works like a champ.

So two pair of vice grips and turn the filter clockwise?

Unhook the plastic quick hose to the filter. Put your vice grips on and unscrew the filter. Filters unscrew counterclockwise..

Look at the filter straight on from the unhooked end. It'll go counter clockwise. If you stare down the line with the vice grips on it to the filter, then it'll look clockwise. I see what you are saying.

Take a minute and reason out which way you need. You'll be upside down and possibly backwards.

I'll be looking towards the filter, but basically opposite of line nut. Should I put some anti seize on the threads when I put the new one on?

Well I finally got around to changing the filter. I got it off with the two locking vice grip method. I wish I would have just cut it off because after spending an hour getting it off and probably pulling a bicep in the process, I noticed that it appeared the line nut looked like the first part was cross threaded. I ended up at the auto store buying the fuel line repair kit that was mentioned with compression fitting. Now I have a new filter with a new line nut that's not rounded out and corroded like crazy plus if I ever have the problem again I can take it apart at the compression fitting. I believe that this fix should last forever because of the fact the compression fitting is all metal with no gaskets or o rings to wear out. Anybody have any experience with these?
