I have no clue why these are so difficult, I've never had such a hard time but I can't get a good grip on the metal dust covers or the wores themselves is there a trick you guys have used?

If you have new ones to put on and you dont care about those ones, just twist and pull with pliers, worst comes to worst, pull on the plug wire, it will most likely rip out, but I found once the wire was off I could easily get the boot off the plug.

Dont they actually sell a spark plug wire puller??? It is a wrench like deal that grips it and should not rip it?

Oh well ok then... I have never tried using them.. I did not really have too hard of a time getting mine off when I did my plugs... Just pulled like H*ll on it.

I own a pair of the spark plug wire pliers. They do work if you can get it on them. But for the GP I just twist the boot and pull at the same time and off they come.

Get new wires your car will . Use Dielectrical grease and removal will be easier next time.

what ever you do make sure you keep the metal covers. They do keep the plug wire from melting next to the headers. I bought and tried to use one of those plastic plier pullers and they sucked. When you do get them off make sure to use the grease like the above thread mentioned. Don't be afraid to put a liberal amount in there.

Those heat shields can cause a lot of problems with misfires. I threw mine in the trash and haven't had any problems with my headers.

    On these cars they are.

Only thing you should be worried about keeping are the metal boot covers.

And honestly, I don't even have those, just route your plug wires intelligently and you won't have any issues melting/burning wires and/or misfires.

I run Autolite 606 plugs gapped at .050"...with MSD wires...they have bendable plug boots so I can turn them away from the manifold primary on each cylinder. Easy peasy.

I use the plug wire socks. Same material that the header wrap is. You have to manipulate them abit but they make for a clean look.

I don't have headers on my car either.

My point is the factory manifolds are fine without heat shields and the metal plug boots regardless.

It's easy. Vice grips on the metal plug cover. Pry against valve cover.

    Off they come.
