Thread: Axle passenger side.

The axles on the '97 GTP are larger in diameter than the '97 GT ????? Well I know they are on this GTP that I'm trying to put a GT motor and trans into.

How far into the trans does the axle shaft actually go in? Does anyone have a close up view showing the passenger side axle in the transmission?

After finding out this I took apart the inner CV boot, put the GT end on the axle and inserted it into the transmission, while doing this the boot separated because of the aftermarket boot clamp failed.

So I have the inner shaft either in the transmission or partially into the passenger side transmission - not sure... I think I heard the click of the lock ring but at the same time I noticed the boot had separated so I really don't know.

Funny thing is I tried to install the GTP axle for 10 minutes before doing outside in the snow to look at the GT carcass then noticing this is different.

I have not looked at the drivers side yet.

Not only are the axles bigger diameter, but they are different lengths. Well, the passenger side is anyway. You need pass axle from a GTP with a GTP trans. And pass axls from a GT with a GT trans.

Your driverside axles are the same between all transmissions in this body. The passenger is different because of the HD diff being longer.

So I should have no problem with the Driver's side, it just the passenger side I need to use the old whole Axle. Hopefully this axle is in good condition, it was rubbing on the frame from when he(my kid) hit the ditch and bent the sub frame.

One way to figure otu if it's in would be to look at where the axle seal was riding and base it off that. It sticks out far enough to make many guys say...is it in or is it not.

Well today's picture tells me we do not have it installed all the way... This is just the stub, no CV joint on it, do I need to remove it to install the CV joint and boot?

What is holding me up from pushing it in further?

Take a look at the circlip on the axle. The way they work is they need a quick jab or shock to compress them. If you just push with brute force..they do not compress.

I'd put the axle together then put it in.

I'm thinking I don't have the touch that I need so much.... Tomorrow evening or probably Tuesday evening I'll try again to get both axles into or onto the trans....!

Also the wiring on this GTP is of ourselves a bit different. I'm guessing one of the extra plugs is for the supercharger boost but I need to know what the other 3 prong plug is for. Both of these are in the harness with the rear 3 injector connections

what year is hte GT trans and engine from?

if it's form a 97 that is a 4t60 and the plug is diffrent if not no idea why the plug would be diffrent

97 GT motor/trans going into a 97 GTP. If you have the 97 GT harness, that'll probably be the easier swap.

correct - its a '97 GT going into a '97 GTP frame. Where do I start taking the harness off - meaning where is the other end...? I'm aware of the whole harness that I've unhooked from the motor and now hooked up to the motor, but where is the connections that I unhook from the old frame to transfer to this frame?

It should connect at the pcm, the fusebox and I think it might sneak in through the firewall. I have one at home I can take a look at in the next couple days if you need me to. Basically you'd unhook all the engine stuff you just hooked up to the electrical and pull it off.

I won't have any real time to work on it again until Wednesday evening - hopefully the axles will magically pop themselves into place by then...lol

Turn it back the right way. There's nothing that you are doing that requires any more than 1 space.

Wiring will be relatively easy. Toughest part is probably pulling the rear O2 wire out of the shield it's in.

Yea that rear O2 wire - the one I left attached because of the shield - well I know I can get it off

And yes I plan to turn and park this thing in 1 stall. I've been hoping to just drive it outta the garage...

that also explains the axle 97 GT passenger axle is special it is even diffrent then the 98+ GT axles. so is the driver side
