    Hello everybody,

I am new to this site. I just purchased a 2003 Grand Prix GT in July with 59500K miles on it. It just turned 60K last week and today my SES light came on. The car seems okay. How do I find out what the light is on for? Obviously I could take it to a dealer and have diagnostics run, I was just wondering if there was anything I could do myself.

Thanks in advance for any help. This is my second Grand Prix GT. I really like these cars...so do my kids! Much better than driving my wife's van! )

Take it to Autozone and have them check the code. Only remember the code they give you. Forget the rest of the BS. Bring the code here and post it, we can go from there.

There are a few hundred codes, so just because the light is on doesn't help us.

P0442 - Evaporative emission control system, small leak detected

Try tightening your gas cap, or you may need a new one.

    Welcome to the forum!

And I see Sabre is on top of your problem. That code is most often set by a bad or leaking gas cap, like he said. So try it and see if it helps.

    Thanks everyone!

I replaced the gas cap, had the SES Light reset and so far it has remained off!

I am grateful for the help! You guys probably saved me a lot of money!

I'd guess the underhood fuse box. Probably labeled "PCM".

Probably. I don't have your manual in front of me, but the manual should tell you what the fuses do in detail.
