If the fuel pump is working.......

will it be loud enough for me to hear if i have my head in the trunk? My car died out yesterday(ironically just put a much needed fuel filter on). I personally couldnt hear it when i was in the drivers seat. Friend told me that if i put my head in the trunk and have someone turn the key i should hear it. Did this several times and honestly i dont hear anything. Had put new sparks and wires and was getting ready to replace the crankposition sensor. If it is the fuel pump would it just die like that? Is there a fuse i should check? And lastly how hard is it gonna be to replace the pump if i have to do so?

Try removing the fuel cap and listening there while someone cycles your ignition from off to run. You outta be able to hear the pump easily this way. What car do you have?

I have the 97 gt. Well i found out it is the fuel pump. I had the mechanic check all the fuses and he also hooked a compression device to the fuel rail and once it reached proper pressure the car started right up and ran even. Soon as he took it off car sputtered and shut off. The irony he told me was that by replacing that fuel filter that had been on the car for so long and there being so much crude in the system and the cold weather caused the pump to seize up. The good news is the new assembly will have the fuel sender on it also and will resolve my issue with the fuel gauge reading improper.

Double Check the Fuel pump connector, Open the little access door in the back seat, Lift the carpet up, And theres a small door open it up, There is the pump, Unplug it and check the connector for corrosion, I had the same Issue... Pumps Easy to replace if you have to. But the corrosion caused the lead to break on the harness side.

Then red mine is definately dead. I just looked up the procedure for replacing it. Im not very mechanical but i got a good idea how to do this, except the part where i have to empty out most of the gas in the tank.

I started up my car one cold morning. Getting ready for work, Stood there, Lit a cigaratte... Listened to the car idle. then it started to do a lope and die...

I was in a hurry, Looked at the pump and pulled the connector. seen it was corroded and the little terminal end inside the connector broke. Stuffed a few pieces of stranded copper wire in it to get it on the road till i could get a harness end.

You could try swapping the fuel pump relay in the underhood fusebox for another of the same type, Like the AC COmpressor relay. eliminate that.

I can hear mine sitting in the car, i usually wait for a second or two before starting to ensure pressurization.
i know that is not necessary, i just do it
