Thread: Problems with 2006 base Grand Prix and temperature. PLEASE help

I cleaned up some wires last night under the hood (grounds, power wire, etc.) and I somehow caused a huge issue. I want to stress that I changed NOTHING overall, the wires are just organized and have Tekflex on them now. The connections are all the same. What happens now is that my fans (electric) are both stuck on high and my temp gauge is stuck at zero. I feel these issues are related. The gauge still works, as it moves when I start the car.

I replaced the coolant temperature sensor with a new one.... no effect.
I disconnected the positive on the battery and grounded it out in order to reset all of the electrical systems... nothing.
I disconnected the PCM in order to reset everything... nothing.

I have no idea what to do now. The car also has sporadic voltage and it will not start due to low voltage for some reason. Maybe something is shorted? I check as many fuses as I could and saw no blown ones. And I also do not know how the battery is draining so quickly as to no allow the car to start. It will be floating at 12.8V or so, and I will start it and then shut if off and it will all of the sudden be at 12.1 V and refuses to start. The battery is in fine condition. I am sure of that.

I'm not an auto mechanic and this may or may not be your problem but, in the statement above you said you cleaned some wires. I'm assuming you mean re-wrapped it or re-routed wires. I had a electrical issue that cropped up one day, the MAP sensor had zero voltage output. We found the wiring harness between the computer and the engine had rubbed the front valve cover until it wore a hole through the insulation. I had one broken wire and 3 exposed wires. Wondering if this maybe the same problem? Your car is the same year as mine so the possibility is there. All it takes is a short or a few broken wires to do in a computer. Hope this gives you some direction.

Basically I am suggesting what the others have suggested, re-check your work.
