lol you both have like the same avitar! at first i thought you answered your own post! yeah ebay has cheap turbos all the time. from what i hear they are great paper weights! or look good on a shelf. i always wondered though... if you were going to use one for low boost and make sure the oil system was well set up on it... and took the time to break it in easy if it would work... like running at 50-65% of its quoted boost level. it just might work. then again if the compressor were to break it would be sucked into the engine!! bad news.

    Turbos don't require break in.

And some people have no issues with the Chinabay turbos. Quite a few guys run twin Chinese 16G's and only a few have had failures. Most guys just prefer to pay the extra for MHI (Mitusbihi Heavy Industry) 16G's for peace of mind.

EDIT: Another thing you have to watch out for is a few "turbo rebuilders." We had one guy on the 3/S forums come in like a flash flood offering turbo rebuilds/upgrades for ridiculously low prices. After about a few months people realized why he was so cheap. His work was subpar, and 99% of his turbos failed. He pulled a disappearing act and owes out turbos he never shipped, or waranteed turbos he never sent back. Sad part is another vendor went and hired him knowing his past. That vendor has also fallen out of favor.

I like how everyone in this thread discounts these turbos having never installed one, used one, or hell even had a turbo on their car.

Simple fact is, Ebay turbos are pretty darn functional, they commonly use a lot of great parts such as OEM garrett thrust bearings, shafts, etc. The only thing that may not be up to speed with these turbos at times is the somewhat shotty compressor/exhaust wheel balancing, which could be checked a turbo shop easily enough if you were paranoid.

I have a GT45 clone off ebay on the shelf, a friend of mine went 8's at 150 with this turbo, it was around $300 vs $2700 for a garrett turbo.
