I was drive my 01 GP and I stepped on it hard and got up to 70 on a hill and the check engine light started flashing but stopped when I got out of the gas. Then later I got up to 100 and it started to flash. Why is it doing that?

Best take that car somewhere and get it scanned. When the dummy light flashes your in limp home mode. Means 'please dont drive me I'm dieing!' and you prob shouldnt until you get the issue taken care of.

Best get it scanned asap. The codes pulled off the scanner will give you a pretty good idea where to find the prob and how to fix it.

You have a misfire, thats why its flashing.

Pull all the spark plugs and make sure none of them are smashed or broken, then look at your wires and make sure none are broken.

If you dont think the plugs have been changed in a while, maybe you should just replace them all.

Per the FSM the check engine light flashes when a potential catalyst damaging condition is present.

This typically means you have a misfire. This can be a weak coil, bad wire, bad plug or worse.

Correct, I've had coils go out while running hard. I've also seen plug gap cause issues when running hard etc. So let's diagnose before shotgunning parts.

Read codes and see if you have one cylinder misfire showing up.
