is there a sure way to tell if i have a possible leak of coolant into my oil? possibly from the intake manifold. the oil is not milky colored. it does have an oil leak from the oil pan but the oil level never seems to go down.

Easiest way to tell is by looking at the color and texture of the oil. If it is milky and light brown color, there is antifreeze in it. Another good way to tell if you have a coolant leak is to have a coolant system pressure check done. This will identify any leaks you have.

It is more likely that you could have tranny fluid in your coolant.

But even more likely than that is that your coolant is just old and dirty and needs changed.

You can also have an oil analysis done.

yes you could have oil in you coolent i have seen it a bunch of times working at a pontiac dealership. Usually what happens is a bad intake or head gasket start with a gas anilizer and open you rad cap and check for hydro carbons comming out. if so its the head gasket. or like zef_66 said do a pressure test if its a bad leak you can see the colent squirt out.
