I have a 2001 Grand Prix GTX, with a few mods but have one problem. Every now and then it seems like my engine wants to die and sometimes after this occurs my tach goes out then about 3 seconds later the TCS light comes on. It is very randomly occuring and can not figure out why. If this has happened to anyone or anyone can help with some advice any at all would be appreciated.

    Thanks

It is a very common issue with the 3800 engine. The key is the loss of RPM which the Crank sensor controls and when the computer has no RPM information, it turns off the Traction control. The Crank sensor is made up of two parts. One controls the tach signal the other controls ignition. At least the side that allows you to continue to drive went out, Ive had it happen both ways and if the ignition side goes out you'll be pretty much dead in the water.

Thats what it sounds like. We obviously cannot guarantee it, but that is most likely the issue. Its not hard to do, can be a little time consuming and as URLOSN mentioned, I did a write up on how to replace the sensor that you will find in the How To section.
