OK scary topic I know. My bro was driving my car down the street, after I installed my intake. I wanted to show him how it turned out. I was not in the car.

He is used to driving stick. He didnt want to push the car to its limits on a launch but he gave it about 60% throttle.

For some damn reason he decides after a burst of pedal, to remove the throttle and put the car in Neutral so (im guessing) to let the engine noise come down slower.

Anyway, he decided to hold the button on the shifter. Well we all know what that does. When I put the car in neutral, I simply push the shifter forward without pushing the button, thus allowing the reverse gate not to be opend.

Like I said, he held the button down and threw it into reverse. He was doing about 20mph. He freaked out and didn't take it out of reverse. It was like slow motion for me. I watched the reverse lights come on and a second later I heard "CRANK". It sounded like.... putting a car in park while driving. Get the picture? It lasted for a few seconds then the car died.

The reverse lights stayed on! Im like "TAKE IT THE F OUT OF REVERSE!" He said he freaked out and didnt pull it backwards. Hell it may of even hit park for all I know.

The car has been making a odd noise ever since then, but it goes away. The car drives "normal" but im wondering if there is damage. The car has always hung at high RPMs when changing gears.

What should I do? Have it looked at? Leave it alone? The car appears to drive normal, no hard shifts, reverse works fine, and park too.

The PCM is supposed to kill the engine if you put it in reverse at too high of a speed (no hydraulic pressure from the engine means the tranny can't complete the shift). If you heard the loud clicking of the parking prawl trying to find a notch, he probably hit park and the tranny was doing as designed and letting it skip over instead of rip the tranny out of the car.

I bet it's probably fine. Not happy, but probably no damage.

Great to hear. So the vehicle is designed to not allow the vehicle to be hit into park. I assumed so, but by the sound of the noise, I had no idea what was going on.

I love the new safety features in these cars to prevent damage unlike the older generations that didn't have these safety features and could do all kinds of bad stuff

If you slammed it into park at the speed you were going (doesn't take much) one of four things (that I can think of) would've happened.

1.) Tires start skidding as they lock up instantly.
2.) Axles break from the sudden force.
3.) Parking prawl/gear in the tranny disintegrate in a beautiful chaotic explosion.
4.) The tranny/engine decide to leave the car.

    Something would have to give.
