Hello community! Hope this is in the right place. Just replaced both headlamp assembly because the passenger side cover was cracked and both looked old. I ordered them from TKO Auto Parts through Amazon. TKO Auto Parts - and TKO Auto Parts - They came as a pair. Installation was smooth and I disconnected the battery just in case while I installed them. After installation I tested the headlights, high beams, parking lights, and tail lights. Everything worked fine. The next night I was out I turned off my headlights while driving to do something while the car was running and in drive. I tried turning them back on and they would not come on. All other lights still worked including high beams. The car recognized that I had them on but they were still not working. I messed around for 5min turning them on and off with different combinations of high beams on and off and finally they turned back on. Now days later they are acting up again. Sometimes when I start the car they come on like they should. (This is with the switch set to auto). I figured the headlights that came with the headlamp assembly were just junk so I replaced them with Sylvania 9005SU SilverStar Ultra High Performance Halogen Headlights, Pack of 2 Bulbs. Same issue is coming up. I'm thinking its fuse related or perhaps some wire in the steering column. Any help would be appreciated.

    Car experience : very limited

Check the grounds. Had a car where the ground for low beam headlight relay was bad and they wouldn't come on.

    I'm with him

On another note, do the headlights look as good as they do in the pics? Look just like factory? Mind posting pics? My headlights aren't horrible, but I'd really like to install new ones to clean up the look of the car.

And where can I find the ground for the low beams?

Headlights are brand spanking new. Looks exactly like the pictures and makes the car have a newer look. Definitely worth the money, as long as they work.

The headlight units themselves should have nothing to do with the bulbs. The only other issue I could forsee would be a faulty multi switch for the headlights.

What you need is a test light. If the headlights don't come on then you need to test for power at the headlight socket, and if no power there start tracing backwards.

And thanks for the review. Maybe after the holidays I'll look into a set.

I've never used a test light before. I'm wondering if it would just be easier to bring it into a shop and pray they don't charge too much because I need this done by Tuesday morning before I go to work in the dark.

Can't you just switch the power wires for highs and lows?

Test light is one of the easiest thing you could ever use. Its a ground wire and a probe to test for power. If there is power, the light lights up.

Well I guess I'll go buy a test light in the morning and try it out. Thanks for all your help! I'll update as I go.

Shrug. Haven't done anything with my lights yet so I dunno about the Grand Prix wiring. But it WAS just that simple in the 01 Firebird I had.

I figured out the low beam bulbs are good. The fuses are good. The grounds are good. Also the old headlamp assembly units wont work now either. High beams, fog, and parking lights still working. The only thing I can see now that would be stopping them from working is the actual column piece that controls the lights. Someone else has mentioned that GM has common issues with this. Another source suggested a faulty parking brake that could cause the low beams and the DRL to not work.

Hey check the wires running from your headlamp and see if it is shorting out. On my 06 I accidently put the headlight in with a wire in the way it got striped and every so often the headlights would just shut off. No ammount of messing with the switch would turn them back on but all of my other lights would work. Its super easy to strip the wires b/c they are so thin and fragile.

I had the same problem on my Envoy. It ended up being the relay 5016745, RY560 Look it up in your owners manual and see which one it is and see if you can exchange it with another relay thats in your car, to see if it works.

My problem was exactly like yours, high beams worked, parking lights worked, but low beam and DRL lights didn't

Alright, here's what's been going on. Took it in Wednesday and explained in detail the whole situation. They looked at it for awhile and said it was the control switch. (On this car its not on the dashboard but an arm coming off of the steering wheel) They replaced it and it seemed everything was working fine. Later that night I ran to the store and when I came out to start the car they wouldn't come on for 15 seconds. On the same drive home I had to temporarily turn them off while I was driving and when I tried to turn them back on, nothing for 1 min. Last night I went to go out for some food and they wouldn't turn on at all so I gave up for the night. Talked to the shop this morning and they said they would refund me for the part and would take a look at it next Wednesday morning. At this point I've put in too much money to want to take it to a gm dealer because I have a feeling it will cost a lot more but I need this problem fixed. Very frustrating!

I'll go out tomorrow and check my GP and see if I mess with the relay I can duplicate your problem. Thats weird cause, my envoy was having the same exact problem?

Do you turn your DRL's off a lot?

I turn the DRL lights off in my Envoy all the time and drive with the fog lights on. I was thinking by turning them off and on so much wears out the relay.

I'll get back to you tomorrow.

When you turn the low beam headlamps on and they don't light up... do fuses 3 (lf low beam) and 4 (rf low beam) have power? These being in the under hood fuse block. Use the test light you're gonna purchase (non self powered test light) to check. Put the test light ground to batt negative or other suitable ground and touch the tip of the test light to the back of the fuse blades and see if the test light comes on.

I wouldn't suspect a ground problem cos the lf low and high share a ground and the rf low and high share a ground. If the high beams work, the grounds work.

Alright. So Final Update for this issue. Took it back in to the shop and they couldn't find any reason for it to not be working. Their theory is the light that determines if its night or day on the top of the dash is acting up when it should be on auto. They put a cap over the sensor and tested it multiple times and it seems to work. Basically it's tricking the sensor into thinking its always night out and so they come and stay on when its on auto. This of course is the quick fix for a part and labor that I'm guessing from a dealership could cost a lot more. So far so good. Thanks again for everyone's help and input. I appreciate it!
