Well my POS grand prix broke down again.

This time thankfully in my parking lot. I went out driving this morning with no issues. Later in the afternoon I was going to leave again and when I started my car, it started and died immediately.

When I went to restart it, it would just make one clicking noise but not turn over? I tried starting it again and now it doesnt even make the clicking noise. No interior lights come on, and none of the normal dash lights come on if I turn the key to the forward or all the way back position.

So I disconnected the battery for about 15 mins and tried again. Same exact thing, made one clicking noise the first try. Then no more noises, clicking, lights, nothing.

I also noticed that if I tried hitting my unlock/lock button on my key, it wouldnt do anything.

Also after the first try when it only makes the one clicking noise, when i try to turn it over again and it does nothing, about 4-5 seconds later the doors unlock twice?

What in gods name is going on with my car? Is this an ignition switch thing?

Also, I can't take my car out of park? Even with the key forward (even though nothing is coming on) foot on the brake and everything the car wont come out of park?

Please help, this car is driving me absolutely f$#%ing nuts !

Sounds like your battery is completely dead.

Which leads it to alternator, grounds or battery being bad.

Battery + ALternator are both new. Both are tested good. 12+ volts on the battery.

If that's the case, start checking grounds, main relays and every wire clip on the car.

Cleaned up the ground by the battery, on the battery, and the tranny ground and now its starting normally.

I'll report back if I have any more issues.

Will contact grease help keep corrosion from occurring?

Starter bad? On my mom and dads mountaineer the starter went out and it would occasionally click but it wouldn't start or even try. The starter ended up having the ground wire burnt in half.

Ever since I cleaned all of the grounds its starting/running normal again.

I think I'm going to add an additional ground wire from the battery to the body (strut tower brace maybe?).

I guess I should of checked the ground before I freaked out. Never would of thought it would go from running perfectly normal to not starting/no lights in one day because of corroded grounds.

    Lesson learned I guess !

i had a problem with mine like this and i cleaned the ground and pos on the battery and it started fine for a few days then it didn't want to start, and now it's starting fine again. I'm just gonna take off every ground i can get to and clean up the connections.

I dunno if that would be a good idea. Might create more problems

    Really?

Why would adding another ground be a bad thing?

it wouldnt just put it at a good location, ie unpainted metal surface like where the origional one is for good bonding
