I have a few pictures that ive taken of my 97 grand prix engine area.I just have a few basic questions and maybe some thoughts on them. The first question is about the picture of the headlight assembly.I want to change bulbs and i realize from other threads that you have to pull the whole assembly out to get to the bulbs(more specifically the furthest back running light)I see two black screws right on top,are they the ones i loosen to pull the assembly out? Second question regards the two pictures of the motor mounts. Is that the factory setup for those or have they been modded, flipped, etc.? Are these what people keep calling the DOG BONES? The last question is about the picture of the WR RACING COMPETITION badge found in the engine area. Was this typical on all grandprixs or is there something more to that.I really dont know the history of this car so any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yes, it should just be those 2 black bolts to remove the headlight housing.

From the pics of the dogbones, noone is going to be able to tell you if they have been flipped. For that you will need to get a pic of the rubber part inside of the mounts where the middle bolt is (Where the part that touches the motor meets the part that touches the radiator support).

The Weapon R sticker came from a cheap intake setup, probably bought from autozone or similar. It was not stock.

Thanks for the info. One other question about the headlight assembly,I notice that on bumps they jiggle a bit.Im guessing some of those screws along the headlight will tighten that up.I noticed that the piece with the two running light bulbs actually pulls a bit from the car body if i pull on it,so perhaps it should be more tight. And explicit-spade thanks for the cleanup.

Those screws are for the BRACKET not the headlight itself. There will be a small amount of play. If you over tighten those bolts you'll strip the headlight housing and need a new one.

Just because the intake on there now is stock doesn't mean that a previous owner did not put something else on there. Here's the website for weapon-R Weapon-R

Thanks explicit.I was going to say in previous post that perhaps it got switched back to stock.Ive been reading all the threads on the cool cold air intakes with the cones on the end, however a guy thats helping me work on the car swears i shouldnt do that because it can damage the engine...bummed.

Bamboo is highly heat resistant and can be found in 3"... Hmm...

Did he give you any justification as to why it would damage the engine?

I've had 4 3800 Grand Prixs and all have had a cone intake of some sort, with no issues.

If you're worried about it, go for the K&N. It doesn't void factory warranties on vehicles that have them and it looks almost stock. Just remember to clean and oil it regularly.

Not really any justification other than the usual "the car is designed this way and should stay this way, modifying the airflow other than the way its designed will cause issues".Of course me,car ignorant and having never modified a car took him at his word.Ive read one of the threads on how to make your own, pretty cool.Perhaps someone could also tell me of a site that has ones made for our cars.I went in pep boys and they had a few,but none for my car.And cool on the headlight assembly,i wont mess with anything but those two bolts.Im just trying to replace that farthest running bulb anyway.

type in for a 99 grand prix. 97-98 has the 90* turn in the intake setup where as 99+ has a straight tube

97-98 needs the coolant bottle from a 99+ though for a 99+ intake to work. If I remember right.

yeah. in 99 they just relocated the coolant bottle, so youll need to get a 99+ coolant overflow to mount on the passenger strut tower
