I have an 06 gp with the factory remote start option. Recently the DIC kept showing "hood ajar" the hood is secure. I disconnected the wire connector at the hood latch to prevent the hood ajar from constantly popping up every few seconds. Tho it does show when I start the car when someone opens a door and when I change gears. Is there a hood ajar indicator switch anywhere i can fool into being closed? If not do I have to replace the whole hood latch? Is there a way to close the circuit in the switch to make it think the hood is closed?

I looked around the sides of the hood and didnt see any switches. This is rather annoying since i cant use my remote start while the hood shows open, besides the constant ding ding ding when i change gears or start the car.

If I remember correctly the hood switch on the grand prix is not a simple open and closed switch...It has resisters inside and depending weather it it latched or unlatched a switch inside switches different resistance.

All what would have to be done to bypass it is to get a resister equal to what the switches resistence would normally be when closed.

I will look for the resister value tonight and post back, I remember seeing it in my car service program when I was going to add oem remote start to an 04.

Checked on the resistance for the switch when closed.

It is between 700-800 Ohms. If you can find a resister or combination of resisters to give you a resistance value within those numbers and hook them to the plug that goes to the hood latch it shouls start if this is the problem.

Dont cut your hood latch connector though, the ends of the resister will just slide into where the pins are on the connector. This should test weather the latch is bad or not.

and will this work? (i found it on ebay)

    IRC
    Resistor 800 Ohm 10W 10%
    Measures:
    • 1-7/8" long
    • 3/8" High
    • .3/8" Wide
I just need to know if watts dont matter not sure what the % is for either. thanks!

10% is the resistors tolerance to power fluctuation. That should work.

So I got the 800ohm resistor and slide the wires into the slots on the connector and it didnt fix anything. The result is the hood ajar light still came on. Possibly bad resistor?? how do I check? or am I missing a step?

Just went through this with an 07 Grand Prix. The 700-800 Ohms reading is when the hood is closed. After poking and prodding and testing found out there was a chafed wire going to the sensor on the harness side that was broken. What happens is it rubs on the edge of a plastic, or fiberglass, piece behind the grill and allows the wire to corrode to the point it looses connection. Repaired the fault and works like a charm.

An addition to this is that the closed position of the sensor was giving me a Ohm reading around 6.5k.
