OK... Thinking about attempting to replace the LIM gasket... Watched the video in the how to section... looks like you gotta rip alot of crap apart to get to it... My question for the people that have done it... is it as bad as it looks and also the estimated time from start to finish? Something i should take a shot at or suck it up and pay a garage to do it?

    Supercharged or not??
On that video some of the stuff didn't need to come out, he was also doing rockers. I did mine 2 years ago, never having been in a car engine before. I was good with small engines (dirtbike, lawnmower) but this was the first time for a car. It went pretty smoothly, its really not that hard. Make sure to label ALL your bolts when you take them off so you know exactly where they go. It took me like 5 hours the first time, since then I've done a few more and I can get it done in 2-3

Ok, it should take a couple of hours. Don't fret, just take your time and follow the video closely. Don't "rip" stuff apart either haha, thats how you get a bolt stuck somewhere you don't want it. GL

yeah in the vid he done rockers and what not you dont have to do ANY of that. i've done it now 3 times, first two times with the assistance of my dad, last time by myself. it's really quite simple. what i did was write down step by step what he done in that video and i followed it. i dont learn very well just by hearing something i have to see words. but yeah. its NOT hard at all. basically remove all the wires and vacuum lines, fuel rail, a few accessories and just unbolt chit.

Yea i know i wont need to get into any of that... but just to get to the point of taken off the manifold looks like a pain. Thats where im going to have to pay attention.... normally i get so into just taking everything off and trying to get to what i need to get at and i forget how things were and where they came from.

well for the supercharger and LIM they are just BOLTS. nothing special. just remove them, keep them organized and together and you won't have problems.

and the only bolts you really need to watch where they come from is the alternator bolts. there is one short one and it gets installed right above the valve cover, if you put any other bolt there it will bust the valve cover, so just make sure you have the right one. take your time and do it right.

while you have it all ripped apart tho, its MUCH easier to do the valve cover gaskets. unless they've been replaced recently you should definately do them now. for a beginner with not much experience i would expect 4 to 6 hours. just expect it cuz everyone is different. theres definately no need to rush to set a record of 2 hours or whatever. do all that and get the famous coolant elbows and you'll be all good.

Explain to her why you are going to work on the car. In life..if you tell people why, they are much more cooperative. Most folks just want the reason/why explained in a fashion that they understand. With my finacee, I explain that I need to swap the transmission because it's made that weird feeling she experienced a few times and that is something that if I don't get to it, will leave the car stranded and me working on it when time isn't planned for.

On the LIM gaskets. Our motors are really only a bunch of simple systems built onto each other. Held together by putting things together in the right order. If you know clockwise and counter clockwise..you can assemble and disassemble things.

Here's a high level overview of the order of the steps
    Unhook battery
    Drain coolant
    Remove belts
    Remove alternator
Unhook electrical to injectors, TB, map, and evap on top of engine
    Remove EGR shield
Remove fuel rail (if you don't have tool..gently flop it up on cowl)
Pull bolts for UIM/SC and remove
Unhook top rad hose from engine side
    Remove LIM
    Clean parts and engine
    reassemble.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Its fairly easy if its your first time just snap some quick pics as you go so if you get lost on the reassemble you can refer to them
