so, i merged this problem in one of my other threads and got no responce to this question. i have a 97 gt, and a few months ago i decided to floor it ( first time, as i dont beat on my car....usually lol). i noticed that it wouldnt redline, or even start to go into the yellow area.

now, some of you are gonna say "why would you want to redline it anyway", and my responce is that, now that it cant redline, i have reason to believe that something is wrong. any thougts on what the problem would be?

note: no codes, and recently added open cone, and still wont redline. the rpms only go to about 4500 before shiffting out of first.

maybe try disconnecting your battery overnight? It might reset whatever is stopping it from going past 4500rpms.

I've never redlined mine (and it's 100% stock), but then again the only times I've tried it is in D, I'm too afraid to sit there and smash on it in P. It's never stayed in one gear long enough to redline.

If you're shifting at 4500 something's wrong. What's the MPH that's showing when you shift? Possibly your Tach is bad in the cluster

    You guys....may be retarded.

Your car is programmed to keep you from being an idiot. The biggest problem with these cars is between the steering wheel and seat.

Wanna see redline? Drive over 15mph stuff it in neutral and put your foot to the floor and hold it there. You'll see it touch the line as it bounces off the fuel cutoff/rev limiter and you increase your chance of blowing it up. (Seriously..don't do this, leave this to the professional race drivers)

Had to come back and explain myself.

You think something is wrong with the car because it won't go into the "bad" red zone. Red is the international color for bad.

Bill, in his original post he said it wont even go into the yellow. Mine hits around 5700 rpm when I floor it. Im pretty sure there is something wrong with his car if it wont go past 4500 rpm when he floors it in gear.

dunno..can't see tube from here. Bout to go for a walk.

Something is wrong if he can only get to 4500. I missed that during Coffee 1 this morning in his quote.

For the record...I just watched your video...and ummm...it goes nearly to redline...I don't see the issue at all other than its a slow, bone stock, N/A 3800 trying to pull the Titanic with more weight added from the driver/passenger.
