    Hey Guys,

My name is Scott and im a new member here. I bought a 2001 GTP about a month ago. The car is amazing for a used 2001 and it is in great shape. Except.... When im going around 50 and up and i get on the throttle i get a little vibration in the front end. The vibration is mild. I have searched and searched and that helped me check a couple of things. I have replaced both cv axles as they were both completely shot, replaced tie rod ends as they looked to be in bad shape from a visual inspection, got all 4 tires balanced, and just got an alignment. The vibration improved a little from how it was, but it is still there from 50+ and its only while im accelerating.. doesnt matter if its straight or left or right. The car does not pull from side to side or anything and when i brake or let off the gas it is not there at all. I checked the top 2 motor mounts and they appear fine and had a mechanic look at the bottom 2 motor mounts and he said they look fine as well... This isnt a huge deal with the vibration, but its driving me freaking nuts!!! So what do i go after next? Wheel bearings? Control arms? Rack and pinion?! Any ideas on this?

FYI... I didnt mention ball joints or control arm bushings because from what i read its just easier to replace the whole control arm.

Well....I had mechanics tell me my mounts were fine, too. But.They weren't So yeah. I'd give them a shot just put some new stockers in there see if it helps. Do both the tranny and motor mount. I'd rather see you spend $120 for both mounts then dish out big bucks for bigger things.

I'll put money on it that its your tires. Mine did the same thing with tires that only had about 10k miles on them. Replaced them and it went away.

I am starting to lean towards the motor mounts since it only happens at specific speeds and when accelerating. I highly doubt its the anything with the wheels or tires just from how it feels. I can take them out of the picture by putting the two front one in the back and the back ones in the front to see if it makes any difference.

How difficult is it changing out the motor mounts? Something you think its safe for me to try or should i suck it up and pay a mechanic? I am good with replacing things, just having ever done anything with the motor mounts

You may want to change out the motor mounts anyway depending on how old they are. But Im sure you'll still get the same thing. Mine would happen between 60-70mph. It would only make a slight vibration when I accelerated between those speeds. I could feel it in the steering wheel and the pedal. Anything below 60 or above 70 it was fine. I went the whole alignment, rotation, rebalancing route, but none of that fixed it. I found out the problem accidentally when I drove through a whole bunch of nails and had to replace all my tires. (they were still new, only 10k miles on them) Once replaced, it was gone completely.

Yeah, When I had the same problem (occured most prominently around 60ish mph) I thought it was the tires too, which it very well could be depending on how they are.

But to replace the motor mounts you just unbolt them, unbolt your dog bones, then get a jack and a piece of board to go between jack and oil pan and lift it up slightly, take out old mount put in new, then do the same thing on the transmission mount but jack on the tranny pan or some hard area on the driver side.

Quite simple, may seem iffy because of the motor jacking but it's actually easy as pie.

Yea reading up on it that is the part that stands out at me.. jacking up the motor. Can you give me an idea as to where the motor mounts are located at underneath? Obviously the ones on the top are hard to miss.. If it is the tires, wouldnt you think that the tire shop would be able to see anything thats wrong with them when i told them to check them out for any issues and rebalance them?

I had mine at the tire shop over and over, upon inspection from the outside they seemed fine. They told me I probably threw a weight, so they rebalanced them. Didnt help. But when I had them replaced, when they got the tires off the rim they noticed there were broken "bands" inside of them. Just keep it in mind if everything else you try doesnt work.

thing to think about is tire balancer's dont spin at 50 or 60 mph,(most dont some do) more like 20 to 30 tops, when a tire has broken belts or flat spots from sitting in one spot, it wont show up till high speed, and then the defects start to show their nasty face. i had 2 messed up tires like this in the past.

if you have a friend with tires and wheels that will fit your car swap tires for a ride to see if it goes away, its a free test if you get no change.

some times rotating front to back wont help if all 4 tires are f'ed, ( but its worth a shot) cheap tires seem to fail, you get what you pay for, not that you have cheap-o's on your car, i don't know what you are running on.

there have been at least 3 threads with a mystery vibration, and it turned out to be bad tires, just a thought.

I knew the tires on the car were almost brand new so I didn't even bother to see what kind they were. They are primewell tires. I did some research and they are cheap tires and found some people had the same issue as me... Damnit.. that's not exactly a cheap fix to buy 4 new tires.
