Lets get all the myths out of the way at once, and add some truths while we are at it.

Octane doesn't add power. More octane doesn't help a car that doesn't need it. If you dont knock on 91, running 93 isn't going to help.

Octane is knock preventer and nothing more. 93 octane is harder to ignite than 91, and 91 is harder to ignite than 89, and 89 is harder to ignite than 87. Thats how octane works. Running too much octane will actually hurt by leaving carbon build up. It will also cost a hew hp.

Higher octane does not burn cleaner.

Not all forced induction engines need 91/93. Several modern engines with direct injection and turbos run on 87 octane.

correct, many of the modern engines that has turbos for "small" performance gains, and mostly for fuel economy still run on 87, but they are detuned so that they can run 87, such as the new Cruze and Regal.
