Thread: Mass Air Flow Kills my car

Okay, so my car randomly decided not to start the other day. It died the second it started to run. At first I thought it was a passkey problem because my security had been blinking, but then I found out I had a maf code, so I unplugged the maf sensor and it started right up... figured the sensor was bad or shorted out so I bought a new one... same thing, dies the second it starts. Unplug it, runs great... Anyone ever had this problem? Or any solutions/things to try. Only reason I don't think it is still a passkey thing is because I thought that was more related to just shutting off the injectors, and after awhile of running the light will go out. So one time I waited for the light to go out before I plugged the MAF in... Still killed it.

Also (+) wire had 13V, Ground wire had continuity (roughly 4-5 ohms), and the input voltage sensor wire had 5V. (Talking about the three wires that plug into the MAF)

had the same problem, I changed the whole ignition switch. but maybe theres an easier fix.

The mass air flow sensor being unplugged let your car run too? New ignition switch... sounds like fun! lol

Also guessing your security light was blinking?

Try disconnecting the battery, reconnect later and start it with cleared RAM.
Its possible your MAF needs to be re-calibrated.
Unplugging the MAF and starting the car just reverts to programmed tables.
It's normal to run without the MAF, the car has to have a back up if the MAF fails.

I know the car will run without the maf, thats why I unplugged it when I got the code, but it won't run optimally.
I've disconnected the battery and tried again a couple of times. Also tried just taking out some ecm fuses... no luck.

I did however look up how to reprogram the pk3 key, so the security light is gone and longer an issue to be considered!

Oh, forgot to mention after the 40 minutes it took to reprogram the key... it started with the maf plugged in!?!?!? Then the kicker.... it just randomly died after idling for about 7 minutes, and went back to not even trying to start...

Is the o-ring possibly leaking at the MAF.

That's alot of resistance on the ground circuit, should be somewhere near 1 or less ohm's.
A high resistance ground can also cause that code to come on. I would check for any corrosion on the grnd side.

Think there is a possibility I got a bad sensor? Does anyone know what the resistance should be between the terminals or which ones should be open loop?
