Help! I have a 2000 GTP and it has a hesitation, miss what every it is, it only does it under load going up a hill. When I kick in the super charger it seems power through it. I've changed the fuel filter and change the O2 sensor before the cat. Any suggestions?

If it has a misfire, then the Service Engine Soon light will flash multiple times.

Typically, that'd point to bad plugs/wires, or possibly a coil, but that'd misfire on 2 cyls.

Check the plug wires for burns, cuts, scrapes, frays, or anything not normal looking. Also pull the plugs and see if theres any cracking in the porcelain, and how the electrode is wearing.

It has 155k. Air filter was cleaned 1k ago, plugs and wires changed 15k ago. I've had it for 17 months and the service engine has never been on.

I saw your name and thread title...this made me think... It's not trying to be found

You need plugs/wires and maybe a coil pack.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Thats funny right there, thanks. I'll try the plugs and wires. How do I tell which coil pack is bad?

    Determine which cyl's are misfiring.

Basically, replace the plugs and wires, and if it's still a problem, have codes pulled and see which cylinders are misfiring, and that'll lead to your coilpack.

You could have a pluuged cat. The symptoms you describe point to that. Either gut it out or get a high-flow aftermarket cat from a parts store. Don't leave a plugged cat long because it puts more pressure in your engine and can actually end up blowing an intake or head gasket.

Before changing plugs and wires take the boots off the coil packs and inspect the terminals for rust which is common. Look inside the spark plug wire boot and check for rust. If there's rust inside the boot then change the wire. If there is rust on the coil pack terminal then use a high grit sandpaper and take off the rust. Use some die electric grease on the terminal and put the wire boot back on.

If it were a cat going bad, you'd feel like the car hit a wall at about 4000RPM. And the car wont "power through it"

But the advice on pulling the boots and checking for rust is +1 good information!

Checking for rust is fine if the boots were cheap crap that didn't seal. You won't however check that a wire is good by looking at it.

You're right, but remember he has a random cylinder misfire not a misfire at a designated cylinder. That points to coil pack, plugged cat, bad wires, or bad plugs. Notice that I specified plural.

No, your car wouldn't feel like it it a wall at 4000 RPM if your cat is plugged. The first thing is the engine code, and you will feel some loss of power especially uphills and such. Ther car will sputter too and loook for power.

Wow, thats a lot of info. Game plan: plugs and wires on frinday, check coils for rust. Can I check cat is pluged with a heat gun? Read that some where. I'll keep you updated on my progess. thanks
