I just bought this car yesterday and was aware that my traction control off light was on.
But on the way home when it got dark, to my surprise the dash lights wouldnt turn on.
I thought well maybe a fuse was blown and checked some of the fuses that seemed to control that in the book, but not sure i checked the right ones. The lights for the AC controls, the gear selector lights near the shifter and the Speedometer, Tach, Temp, and Fuel gauge lights wont turn on.
they function perfectly, all the warning lights and light up when you turn on the car (and go off as they should), turn signals and High beam lights work when activated. But the important ones wont light up.
I was reading something about how Traction control, ABS, Cruise, and other things are all intertwined, so i checked my cruise to see if it works, and it doesnt either. i put the selector to on and held the button to set the speed and the cruise light on the dash doesnt turn on and the cruise control doesnt work. Andbody have any suggestions.

Are all the dash lights by the gauges out or just some? If one dash light works that means you have burnt out bulbs most likely.

It's an 01 and no I don't think its the bulbs because the lights behind the AC controls aren't on either.

unless its in the digital dic 01s dont have a light for the cruse control,, it might be a relay for the interior lights or dash lights look for something that has something like that on it under the hood in the in fuse block

First thing I would do is buy a cheap fuse tester from an auto part store. Then I would go though and make sure EVERY fuse is not blown. I doubt it is any of the under hood fuses It has to be a cabin fuse.

I had the same issue and a fuse that didn't look blown was blown. That sounds like a fuse to me.

@scottydoggs - no my a/c and heater works like a champ. So unless the ignition switch could be a problem without affecting that.

This sounds similar but not identical to what happened to my 01 GTP.

I'd start up the car and it would work fine but as soon as I started the AC/Heater. The DIC/AC/Interior AND Exterior lights would turn off. I tested the fuses and that didn't work. My dad eventually came to the conclusion it was the ignition switch. My dad had to switch that out and the car was working fine after that. Apparently it made the security system in the car go nuts.

Haha well yesterday they all the lights that are supposed to come on when you turn on your headlights did. I mean they all randomly came on when I was at a friends house, steering wheel control, dash, AC , and shifter lights came on and worked like normal. They were on for about two minutes, then I turned my lights off and then on, and it didn't work again. So I left my lights on and the dash lights and such lite up two more times but only for about 20 seconds each time. So I'm thinking its a short in my wires of the dimmer switch

Sometimes the metal on the dimmer switch can corrode and start to work intermittently. IIRC you should be able to take it off and clean the connectors and put it back in.
