How do you remove the air bag from the steering wheel on a 97 GP with the radio controls?
It's already deployed so not worried about setting it off.

One of these;

or Two flat screwdrivers inside the triange holes behind the wheel one side at a time and turn, then the airbag just pops out, then you release the other side.

boy! i just got nailed skimming through a post!
but then again alway un hook the battery when installing a new air bag lol you dont want it to go off in your hands lol
link is changed and now working
If your putting new bags in youll probably have to change the clockspring and definetly the airbag computer under the seat as well.
are GPs dual stage airbags? but yea two skinny flat head screw drivers and have fun its a pita sometimes
Only 04-08 are dual stage, 97-03 are single stage along with any grand prix older than a 97 as well.
I watched a video not long ago of a shop teacher demonstrating to the class a airbag he just deployed on the bench, right after deployment he picks it up and it deploys again in his hand...He learned about dual stages bags pretty quickly![]()
Do you just push in the holes or are you releasing a clip?
Also anyone know where the keykess entry module is at?
It's releasing a clip, when you turn the screwdrivers it's actually pussing the eneds of the clip out of the notch and this allows the airbnag to come out.
For the keyless remote I remember tearing apart a 98 and seen it in the front dash near the top center, heres a link on compnine that shows the same thing.
Pontiac 1997 Grand Prix DOORS-REGULATORS-WINDSHIELD-WIPER-WASHER 1997-2003 W ENTRY SYSTEM/KEYLESS REMOTE (AU0) Car parts for your Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Hummer, Light Truck, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and more!
Cool now I know what I'm looking for too!
thanks!!
