I bought this car a few weeks ago and I’m having intermittent problems with the power windows. Sometimes when I start the car, the windows work, sometimes they don’t. When they don’t work, sometimes they’ll start working in a couple of minutes after I play with the power window switches (drivers side). Other times, they refuse to work at all. A couple of things I’ve noticed is that if they work, they will continue to work until I turn the car off (in other words, they don’t stop working when the car is on).
The really weird thing is that the Sunroof is also included in this scenario. It works when the other windows work, and doesn’t when the others don’t. Aren’t they on different circuits? I have replaced the driver’s window control unit, but that didn’t help. I’ve also tested the yellow power wire to ground and it reads 11.87 volts which should be okay. I’m open to any suggestions.

I would suspect a bad Retained Accesory Power relay, Im going to pick up an engine but when I get back I will look up the info to you, I think its the one right in the passenger fuse panel.

To test a person could swap it with another relay for example borrow the horn one.

Thanks for the suggestion. Does the power steering relay have the same number of pins as the RAP relay?

Just looked up the diagram and its pretty straight forward, Passenger fuse box on the top left and is the only relay in the panel youll beable to see.

As an experiment on a day you dont need your wipers swap it with the relay for your wipers, Its the relay closest to the center of your under hood panel. if the problem goes away suspect the relay. All gm vehicles made in the last 15 years have the same relays so it shoudl be easy to find.

    It looks like this,

Let me know if this helps

It Worked!! Thanks Mike for the help. I called a dealership, and since it was less than $10, I bought one with the intention of swapping it out when it occurred (since it is intermittent). It happened again at lunch today, so I put the new one in and it works great. I think it was heat related, because thinking back, it only happened when it was hot (the interior). Now I can enjoy my sunroof again in the heat.
