Odd, how many times has it burned out, how quickly does it happen?

You gave us almost no info.

I'd say stop buying resistors and splice the two wires together to keep the pump in high mode. I know a guy that ran his car that way for 200k plus miles and finally had to replace the pump.

I've done the bent pin for the last 20K miles. I have no need for that resistor.

this is the third time i have replaced the resistor. it went out 3 months ago and had a local mechanic look at it. he replaced the fpr and relocated it on the firewall. (don't know his reason for the relocation) that resistor lasted 1000 miles. it went out once again and i installed a new one from the gm dealer. that one lasted maybe 500 miles. if i leave the car sit for a bit and go out a couple days later i can start it and drive for maybe another 500 miles at most and the issue will come up again. have been using the resistor bypass for the last couple days but am just wondering how long i can run it like that without ruining the fuel pump.
