Ok so a stupid rock got thrown from a passing truck and cracked my windshield. It already a small crack but now its bad. Question is should I get the windshield designed for the HUD or will it be alright to use a standard windshield? Will my HUD look any different?

Had a regular one in mine with no issues. Not quite as crisp, but no problem seeing it. However, the HUD windshields aren't as outrageously high priced as they used to be.

Last one I remember quoting was around $280 installed, with a new molding. Regular one was around $240. This is in Kansas City, prices vary around this great nation of ours.

Part number you want is a DW01289GBN for the HUD, or a DW01288GBN for the regular glass.

I just got my windshield cracked bad by hail, the whole driverside had a split down it, and it spread out across the passenger side.

The dealership price for the windshield was right around $200, non HUD.

    1) Like I said, prices vary around the nation.
    2) Friborage's 2008 takes a completely different windshield, apples to oranges, but probably still close.
    3) Almost no dealership does their own glass, they just sublet it out to a glass shop anyway and mark it up... so you could have probably got it even cheaper.
    4) Used windshields can be dangerous and a lot shops won't install them because they can't verify what contaminants (if any) might be on it and degrade the bonding surface and compromise the structural integrity of the car. Not saying I 100% agree with that, just letting you know. I'd put one in my car (if I didn't get new ones for 10% over cost) even though we won't do it where I work, but I'd damn sure prep the sh!t out of it. If you get one from a junkyard, be prepared for some places to turn down the job.
    5) Almost all glass shops will play the price game, tell them you got cheaper quotes somewhere else and ask them to match/beat it.

Watched Safelite or whatever drop their price $75 when my coworker did this. As if they had misquoted it the first time.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

Just had my windshield removed and re-set a month or two ago due to a leak. The other day, I took on a stone from an oncoming vehicle and it cracked all the way through both panels. Safelite guy wasn't able to repair it, so I'm scheduled for a new windshield on Friday by the same guys that did the work a few weeks ago. Should have used velcro, I guess, to install it.

$0 cost this time, though. It was $100 the first time through since it was out of my pocket and not through the insurance.

Yeah mine had a cracck from top to bottom when I first got the car but it wasn't in my line of view so it didn't bother me. Coming home from my dads last night after fixing the sway bar endlinks, an oncoming truck passed and kicked up a rock and created a huge spider web crack..

It's cut throat out there, but business is finally picking back up. For a while, as long as we weren't taking a loss, we would drop as low as we could to get the work just to stay busy. Safelite is a big competitor of ours here in KC. I work for Binswanger and we are also a full line glass shop, whereas Safelite is just auto glass for the most part.

I don't know if there any neat you but look up the glass doctors. That's who i went through before and going through again. Reasonably priced and good warrantys. They had my first windshield done in under 30mins.
