I found a good deal on a 94 Grand AM w/ the 2.3 L 4 cylinder engine. I'm currently driving a 94 Grand Prix w/ 212K miles 3.1L engine, but I think that it's time to go (too many little things failing).

What kind of gas mileage should I expect? Are these engine reliable?

    thanks for the help

2.3 is the Quad 4 technically. They had head cracking issues and timing chain noise issues.

Has the worlds longest timing chain that drives the water pump etc. The motor is great when it's running well and it'll make you commit suicide when you gotta work on it.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Is it more or less reliable than the 3.1L? I don't want to purchase a headache.

I'm a maintenance freak (oil change every 3K w/ synthetic), etc , etc but don't want to buy a car whose engine is constantly breaking down.

the grand am I found only has 34K on it!
