Where is that more inward of the car?
Its the big solid looking piece that looks like it would hold the weight of the car.
i always used the pinch weld to get it high enough to get a jack under the front, but the pinch welds arent recommended (per me) and here is why:
notice how people say they have saggy doors that hit the fenders when opening and closing? part of this is lifting up from right behind the front wheels on the pinch weld and tweaking the fender. live and learn.
and plus the strip that the pinch welds are made from get bent and makes the bottem line under the door look like crap
Subframe...like Bill said.
I have to use the pinch welds to get my car off the ground, cant reach anything else with the jack.
but the pinch welds behind the wheel was designed to be a lift point and as far bending it goes its almost impossible on that section just take your time and center it up and the problem I have with the sub frame is if your lifting your car to work under it and you put the stands on the sub frame there goes like half your room
Clearly you guys need some better tools, better jacks and then you'll be all set.
I can lift a car high enough to get a trans out with one of the jacks I have. It's low profile and fits under the front air dam of anything I've tried to date. (lots of cars come through here).
Depending on what you do.. you need to support by the pinch welds. If you are worried about bending the pinch weld or your fenders start to have issues, the car is compromised structurally and should be scrapped or sold. Those pinch welds are designed to be the strongest part on the car, that's how they are lifted at dealerships.
i disagree, my car cant use pinch welds they crumble and fold due to rust and corrosion because i live in canada we have plenmty of snow which means plenty of salt. my car was almost unable to be lifted because of this issue. its a 2002 40th anniversary edition only little over 2000 of them made and your saying i should scrap it and or sell it because of some rust? i paid $650 got the rocker fixed and alllll the rust on my drivers side GM would have charged $1775 for parts and 21 hrs of labour at $96 per hr. if you dont have a reasonable body worker then i suppose choose your insane method of wasting a car. gm didnt think of road salt or rust and the pinch welds are only good to jack if car is in perfect shape no rust or weakness in the pinch welds and their is a subframe thats ment for floor jacking. hoist lifts work diffrently but they seem to have to use the pinch welds. the body repair man told me do not use pinch welds they arent strong enough no more and my rust hole was actualy caused by the previous owner jacking on the p-welds crumbled it poked a hole and then rusted out.. id love for you to take pics of a grand prix you jack on the p-welds and would love to see pics of you doing it with no damages done to the welds at all because i could greatly use the help
I have a craftsman professional jack, I am looking into a low pro jack now that i am lowered.
Anyone that wants to test the jack etc. PM me for an address and start driving east.
PS I have the Arcan XL35R
