ABS/TCS lights on and mechanic says it's time for a new electronic braking/traction control module, but I'm thinking it's probably a simple home fix, proving I can find the part. Has anyone taken on this task before? Where is the module located and is it the easy fix I think it might be?

did he scan the car to find out it was the module? if not, its common for the wheel bearing to go bad, theres a abs sensor in the hub, when it goes bad the abs light comes on. the abs sensor is built into the hub so you just need a new bearing hub. jack up your car and see if theres any movement when you move the wheel from top to bottom, if one of them have even a little play in them its most likely the one that went bad, and yes you can fix it in your driveway.

or pay a shop to scan it and they can tell you what is exactly wrong with it. most shops charge 100 bucks to do this scan.

Thanks for your reply, Scottydoggs! Yes, the mechanic scoped it and got two codes: P1571/TCS = no frequency signal and C0550 showing the ABS module circuitry. According to their interpretation, the module is getting power to it, but no frequency is going out. Also my mechnic was aware of the hub bearing issue, too.

So: have you or anyone you know have experience in replacing this module? It would seem to me, based on the labor estimate, that it's a quick job ("plug it in"), but my husband has no idea where the module is located under the hood and asked me to see if I could pursue this. The other question I would have is: should we purchase a reconditioned module or a new one. I believe our mechanic's estimate for a new module was $1,400 with a labor estimate of about 1.25 hrs.

Thanks for any feedback you're able to give - and yes, I LUV my GTP!

heres a link to the part with a diagram it looks easy enough to change out, you may want to check a junk yard or ebay to get a used one.

Hey Scottydoggs, thanks! You're the best! My internet browsing for repair manuals had come up nil, so I REALLY APPRECIATE your direction. Next up will be locating the part, but I feel like half the battle is done. Will try to upload a picture of my baby soon. Cheers!
