My '04 Grand Prix will slowly reach higher speeds but the rpms never exceed 2000. Is this a fuel injection problem?

Check engine light flashing when it happens?
My first guess would be cat-converter then possible fuel pump.
Never rule out the simple too... check the plugs.
I only say this because my Bonnie did the same thing and I had 2 cracked plugs. Don't know if they were cracked by me or before but I had the tech at work look at the car because I was tired of messing with it. I Did a tune up and it still ran like crap then wouldn't rev over 2500 rpms. Babied to work and the tech grabbed 2 plugs and she ran like a champ. He showed them to me and there were hair-line fractures on them both and he said that was the problem, grounding out or something to that effect.
just a simple check and possibility, take some dirty/dark grease and rub around the ceramic part, if there is a crack the grease will fill into the crack and show up. Free to check, just takes time![]()
^^^^Good input^^^
Possible bad MAF?
A friend had a RB25det swapped S14 and with the MAF disconnected (first startup, no cooling stuff or intake piping; open TB) it would ding 2500 and not exceed that. Fuel shutoff and/or spark cut to keep it safe. As I understand it, the ECM didn't know how much air was coming in, so it would just read the MAP sensor and try to keep it a little rich.
Any codes or idiot lights at all? How long has it been doing this? Does it act like the 4500rpm Park rev-limiter? Is it in gear and park/neutral? The more specific you are, the easier it will be for us to throw out logical ideas. A video would be ideal, though.
