ok, so i have come to the agreement with a lot of people that the vinyl paint i have will not work on my engine cover...

first off, i am wondering if there is anything that i could use it on, that is simple, that would look good...im thinking ill just take the black can back and use the white on the gas cap...anything else?

second, when i take the black back, im going to buy engine paint, in black and white because i need to paint the lettering on my engine cover black...

i was just wondering if there is anything else i will need to get such as clear coat, idk if there is a heat resistant clear coat anywhere...also, what grit sand paper would i need for 1. the gas cap, and 2. the engine parts...

im gonna end up painting the dogbones, the cross member strut things, possibly the oil cap, maybe the fuse box...and anything else you guys think of

please dont just tell me to clean it up and leave it alone, i really want to paint this to kinda sorta make it match the intake white PVC...and no im not gonna paint the PVC black, i luv it white

just voice your opinions, i can handle it, but i might

first EDIT: if i painted the steering wheel cover, would that rub off eventually...i think it might, but duplicolor advertises this stuff as very tough

ok..
since your painting plastic make sure its degreased and clean, i mean cleann. for the plastic pieces look in the rattle can section of whatever store your getting your stuff from for plastic specific paint i.e. krylon. for the metal parts you can take a 3m scuff pad and scuff the metal parts up. you want a good "toothed" adhesion to the metal parts. i believe there is high temp clear but if you prep everything correctly you shouldnt need it. a good thin layer of paint will be less likely to chip then heavy paint.
you can use window cleaner to degrease stuff aslong as theres no silicone in it

well...i asked the guy about plastic paint, and he gave me this effing vinyl chit...

as for the metal parts...what is a 3m scuff? lol also, ill prob get the clear for the heck of it...and to make me have a bit more of a peace of mind...

as in thin layer of paint, could i do two thin layers and be ok? and sand inbetween...
window cleaner...what kind wouldnt have silicon in it?

throw away the engine cover. there, i helped you.

otherwise just get duplicolor engine paint.

3m scuff pads they are in the bodywork area of autozone walmart etc its like the green kitchen pads to clean chiz. they are red or grey

you dont need to sand in between coats of paint just re coat within whatever time it says on the can. you have to look on the bottle of window cleaner lol the brand by me are probobly differant then by you.

odi, if it wasnt for the intake and how sweet im imagining it to be with the white engine cover sitting by it..i probably wouldve sold my engine cover...but i can just imagine it and how sweet it will look

also, yeah, duplicolor is what id get...

and i might keep the vinyl chit because i think i threw away the receipt...w/e

@ redline, im probs gonna go up to walfart tomorrow...so i need a list by tonight haha

ok...i think i have everything i need to know for painting the metal parts..mostly...if anybody has any more helpful input, please let me know...

honestly, i thought about it...idfc if the lettering on my engine cover is black, that would be a pain in the arse to get it to look clean...so im gonna go all white engine cover...i gots the degreaser to use, window cleaner

now i need to know what grit sand paper...do i wet sand? also, how many coats (the paint is white on a greyish base) would make it really pop...

anddddddd it wouldnt hurt anything to get the high temp clear coat right? just paint it over everything i have and then let it dry overnight...

lastly, will walmart have pretty much everything i need?

also, when im doin this tomorrow im probs gonna get a can of VHT nite shade and go to work on my tails...and back up lights...and 3rd tail light...possibly inside door light things, but idk...would i need two cans doing that much stuff? id probs just get two in case, plus a can of normal clear coat

I used dawn dish washing liquid on my engine cover then rinsed it real good lightly scuffed it up with some 400 sand paper then duplicolor primer, dupilcolor paint and ceramabright clear coat let dry as stated on can between all coats primer, paint, clear. wait 72 hours beofre drying left it in the hot sun to dry two coats of ICE wax (iwas about 80 out at the time) a year later still looks great and shiney
