    can anybody post a pic of their 3.1 liter engine area were the oil cap and intake are,ive got a piece of gasket sticking out and we just replaced it,so is it right or not and could it be answer to the whistling and loss of power

    what could be the noise right in that area and when i move that piece it whistles louder and when i mash the gas and hold it,it isnt as loud

    try spraying some carb cleaner around the area, if you have a leak the idle will jump up, then you know if its a leak.

    there wasnt anything tore or ripped off and the piece im talking about is the extra gasket material,i gently pulled it down and it makes the whistling noise louder

    Then you have a massive vacuum leak. Time to re-do the intake gasket.

    The whistling gets less noticeable when you rev it up and hold it because manifold vacuum decreases as the rpms increase.

    Make sure when you reinstall the new gasket that it doesn't slip and get misaligned. I usually put a dab of black rtv on the corners and let it skin up for a few minutes, then set the gasket in place and go from there. This minimizes the chance of the gasket moving.

    While you are at it.. you might want to consider the age of those original plug wires.
