The key will not work to unlock the doors on my 2007 Grand Prix GT. The fob locks and unlocks the doors fine. The power switch inside locks and unlocks the doors fine. If I try to use my one good key in the drivers door it will lock all doors but it does not unlock anything. I have the door panel off and the linkage moves fine. Turning the key clockwise or lowering the linkage triggers the solenoid to lock the doors. Turning the key counterclockwise or lifting up on the linkage results in no solenoid activity at all and the doors remain locked. I suspect this is diagnosis enough to replace the door latch which is where the key linkage goes. Any GM techs out there that can confirm that this is the only possible cause? Thanks in advance.

My guess is you have the Valet key....or w/e they call it nowadays....

Basically its the key that will start the car, and lock the doors, but not unlock the doors, trunk, or the glovebox.

Try it out on the glovebox...if it wont open it...theres your answer...

(this happened in our GT...took awhile to figure it out)

And if not, then I say burn the car down, its too complicated....

Thanks but not it. A Valet key HAS to open the driver's door. This car does not have a valet key and the key I am using does turn the door cylinder to lock it, works in the ignition and glove box.

It is fixed. The body shop must have taken the key cylinder out for some reason and reinstalled it upside down. This meant the linkage was being jammed by the door handle mechanism and could not travel enough. All works now with one key. Now I just need to have a bad key recut that doesn't turn at all.
