NEED HELP!! ITS WINTER AND My 97 Grand Prix sunroof tracks are offset. My driver side track is in the closed position, and the passenger side track is in a half open position. When the problem happened I was closing the roof and heard a hard clicking. It stopped working from that moment on. The tracks werent offset as much as they are now before I took the glass off. When I removed the glass, the passenger side track sprung back about 6 inches. The motor works, but the tracks only move about a half inch forward and backwards. Its cable operated and my guess is that one side jumped the track or a gear or something. Anybody help?

Not an expert for this but common sense dictates:

Try to shoot some pics. The sunroof will reverse direction if it encounters excessive resistance. That could be caused by grime buildup or lack of lubrication. Best to just clean the rails/sliding mechanism and lubricate, and do a visual inspection. Let GPF know what you find....

could not locate the pics. However i did inspection for crud and grime in tracks. I see that its on some type on cable system when i took the glass off which i cant get back on due to the set back on passenger side arm of track. almost seemed like the cable skipped and is now out of whack.

I feel better about the 29 you are sending me than the 10 degrees you sent me last month.

Sounds like sourcing a new roof track setup from a yard is in order.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Ok well I got it all figured out kind of but still does same thing after tried it. An info on how to grease the mechanisms above headliner and what type to use. Seems to just keep slipping. Don't want to keep using it and have it strip the gears that would cost some pretty money I imagine.

For the tracks, you can use any silicone based lubericant, I used the stuff for I think it was for spark plug boots, I don't remember exactly. I know it was a couple of those $1 or $2 packets though.

That is what I used per the advise of a GM mechanic and the autozone employees....
