Hello all. Im new to this whole thing so who even knows if im doing this right. but i have a question and need some input..

So i just bought a 2002 grand prix about a month ago. a week later the low coolant light was on so i put coolant in it. a week and a half after that it was low coolant again, so i added it again. now its been about two weeks and it hasnt came back on. but yesterday i think i may have been overheating. my car usually runs with the temp gauge at 160 (which i think is low, but not sure). Yesterday however, i was sitting in traffic and it started rising and smoke was coming from under my hood. i got off at the next exit before it could go over 210 (which i think is the half way point) and when i started getting up to speed the temp started to go down. i checked my coolant and it was fine.. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be? any input would be appreciated!

    not a problem.

if the coolant keeps getting low you have a leak.

if there are no external signs of a leak you probably need LIM gaskets.

If this is an SE or GT then you might just need a new UIM.

I'd get both replaced though, better safe than sorry and those LIM gaskets fail if they're plastic. Which they will be on your car. Unless they've already been replaced.
