Thread: poly dog bone mounts.

i just got my w body store dog bone polys.. the big square one piece red ones, they have a lip on them. which direction should those lips be facing when installed. and whats a good way to get them in. im already thinking machine shop to press them in for me just from messing with them for a lil while.

how they are sitting in this picture is how they should sit in the mounts:

once you get them pressed in, you'll see why they sit that way.

Should I even try and finish it by hand or just let a shop press them in?

i used a vice and pressed mine in. tore a little bit of that 'flange' part, but it didnt break. it's easy enough. i wouldn't pay someone else to do it.

I am having the same problem. I got the left hand one about 80% through by working it for an hour. I will try the vice next. Any other words of encouragement to help make this a little easier?

WD-40 and your "man hands". That's how I got mine in. Took me 5 minutes to do both of mine. 10 if you include taking out the old bushing.

Here is what I did last night.

1. Cut around the metal portion in the center of the old one using a hole saw.
2. Slipped the carriage bolt back through the center of the old mount. Put the round end of a box wrench over the bolt and hand tightened the screw over the end. Sprayed the cut stock mount with WD40. Used the wrench as a small pry bar and the old mount popped right out.
3. Cleaned up the old bracket.
4. Sprayed the bracket with WD40
5. Positioned the new mount into the bracket with the lip in the correct position. See pic on WBody Store website. That is the position they are to sit in the bracket.
6. Using a flat piece of wood on the right side and a angular block of wood on the left position the mount into the vise.
7. Started cranking the vise, repositioning as needed until the mount is in the bracket completely. I adjusted the wood pieces until it came through.
8. Once the new mounts are in, rebolt the bracket. 4 - 13mm bolts.
9. Reattach dogbones using 15mm socket and wrench.
10. Done.

I did the same thing as SG except I used some thin metal prybars to help guide things into place.

tell me how all i used was a knife, a hammer and my hands. Took me 3 sad hours for the first one and only an hour for the second one. Worth the pain and effort though.
