How many bellhousing bolts are in the transmission of a 99 gtp holding it to the engine...I got 5 out but the tranny still won't budge.

I'm not sure of the amount, but I know there's a bracket up between the engine and transmission holding them together. And did you unbolt the TC from the flex plate?

i'm new at this but i think there are four bolts holding the flexplate on to the flywheel...so i guess i could remove those and everything should come out easy then....

Three bolts, I think. And the flex plate kinda is the fly wheel. You're unbolting the flex plate from the torque converter input turbine.

I think near the bellhousing end of the tranny a bracket goes from the the tranny to the engine block. It's on the under side.

any tips for rotating the flexplate? what about a using a prybar to rotate the flexplate...u know like moving it a little by the flexplate teeth

Yep. Take it off and you can access the bolts one at a time. To spin it, put a breaker bar and socket on the crank bolt.

'tis metric... a 26mm i think, but dont quote me on that.

i think there is also a bolt on the back side of the motor/tranny that the head side is on the motor side, threading into the belhousing....

ya should have a haynes manual, man

Just go into Autozone and ask to rent an axle nut socket. You'll get all your money back when you return it.

I didn't know the size when I went and got one. I think they asked what car I had and gave me the right one.

In a pinch, you can use a large flat blade screwdriver to "walk" the flywheel around to get to the three bolts. Sure it takes a while, but it gets the job done.

There are eight bolts that hold the flywheel/flexplate to the engine.
Three bolts hold the Torque converter to the flywheel/flexplate
There are seven bolts that hold the transmission to the engine.

The Axle nut can vary, and I think it has a lot to do with whether or not you have bought or have aftermarket/replacement axles for it. But they seem to be either 34 or 36mm. Mine actually had one of both. I just replaced one axle on my boss's bonneville and I believe it was 34mm.

    oh no problem scotty,

those seven bolts for the tranny, when i got the 5 out of the bellhousing it took me forever to find the other 2 that were connected to the other end of transmission. but i got it. engine is out.

but i tore my cv boot and may have broke a cv joint....yeah and all i was doing is taking the tranny out...leave it to me to mess something up lol...how do i tell? and if it's not broke can i just get another boot? all of the grease came out though.

this is my first time ever messing with cv's so sorry for all of the ignorance.

thanks again for all of the replys...and yes brian i just used the screw driver and it worked like a charm
