I have several codes for the secondary air injection and was wondering if there is anything else besides the air pump and the check valve could be wrong. The codes are P0411, P2440, and P2431. I replace the valve once before and it cleared the codes I had at the time but they came back. I think that I have water in the pump which must have caused the valve to fail again. Basically I was just wondering if there are any electrical issues that I would have a hard time diagnosing or if replacing the pump and valve would take care of the codes. I search for the P2431 code but could not find anything. Thank you.

I have the p2440 as well which is a valve specific code. P0411 is a code for the secodary air system as a whole. Cand find anything on 2431 either. There is a fuse for the system you might want to replace? On a side note where is this valve located on the car and where did you get yours to replace it? Dont want to give the dealership $250. Good luck!

I took off the hose running to the valve and found some water. The pump was also full of water so I decided to replace both, because I figured the pump had to be bad from freezing or at the least would fail soon. After replacing both, the codes came back. I also got a P0641 code which I think has to do with electrical problems. I had to have the car pass emissions by the end of the month so I decided to take it to an independent shop, also the car is almost at 80,000 miles and will be out of the federal emissions warranty soon in case it happened to be a problem with the pcm. They diagnosed it as the secondary air system relay. Got it back Tuesday and have not received any codes yet. I do not know if the relay was causing all of the trouble or if it just happen to fail because of the pump or valve. I am glad that I replace it all because I have read many people say that they replace one part then the second part fails soon after.

I ordered my parts from a site and I don’t remember who at the moment, but RockAuto had slightly better prices but the shipping would have taken too long. If you replace the valve do not forget to get the gasket, you can pick it up at the dealer for like 6 dollars if you need to.

The valve is located on the back of the engine, take off the plastic cover and you should see a hose going to it from the driver’s side. If you need to, just follow the small hose that comes out of the air box down to the air pump and then follow the second hose from the air pump to the valve. BTW I cut a 10mm wrench in half to make it easier to take off the valve. You should be able to replace the valve in about 30 min.
If you have any more questions just ask.

Considering you do not live in California.. you can get away with removing the air injection system.

Can you remove or disable it so it quits throwing codes?
