Re: Hood insulation or no?
Most cases, from GM since they are going to install a hood shield....they won't really paint the center of the hood very well since they are going to cover it up. It saves them from having to paint something that people potentially won't see....not paint fade from heat.
If it were going to fade directly over the hood on the under side, it would do it on top as well.
Re: Hood insulation or no?
Yeah, mine isn't painted in a vaguely rectangular pattern in the center. You can see the specs from overspray, but it never got the full treatment.
Re: Hood insulation or no?
Mine is kinda damaged, it is discolored. Is there a place that can locally get this?
I saw one on Parts.com - For every part of your life, they wanted like 60 bucks, plus shipping.
Re: Hood insulation or no?
Just a follow up, in the two months since I have removed this (hottest months of the year) my hood is just fine.
Re: Hood insulation or no?
Haven't had one on mine for the past 5 or 6 years. No damage here either. Like Reptile said, just had the bare spot in the center where it wasn't painted. A little artic white paint solved that problem.
Re: Hood insulation or no?
Get rid of it, the damn thing is worthless. All it does is trap in more heat.
Re: Hood insulation or no?
Can one paint it to make it look newer?
Re: Hood insulation or no?
You could paint it but why? Send it to the heap and be done with it. I still can't believe people are arguing about if it will damage your paint, if you take it off. The answer is HELL NO! I've been running mine without the hood insulation for over 3 years now with no dammage. Jeebus.
Re: Hood insulation or no?
would the hood scoops on the special edition stop the paint bubbling as they somewhat increase the airflow under the hood....

Paint bubbling from what?
Re: Hood insulation or no?
You can also remove the seal along the back of the engine bay where the hood comes down to increase air flow also.

No, it has a metal lip which holds the rubber seal on. Even at the car wash it isn't going to get in there easily.
You people think to seriously about some of this stuff. :th_laugh-lol3:

And what is the problem with rain in the engine bay? Ever drive when it is raining? Your engine bay gets wet. Those big holes in your bumper are responsible for that. They let air in, as well as water.
And FWIW, when I wash my car, I also wash the engine bay. I don't power spray it, but I do soap it down, and rinse it off with low pressure spray. In all my years of washing my car this way, I have never had any issues.
