I bought my 2000 se a couple of months ago and thanx to ppl on this fourm I have saved some cash on replacing some of the common problems that come with some of the GP's Just wanted to say that. The decision I have to make is whether or not I should have the trans fluid and filters changed or just keep adding the lucas treatment. The problem is,after about 30 or so miles of driving(when it's cold out) the tranny starts to whine some and starts to shift hard. I was told by someone not to change it because it would make the tranny go out faster. Today my mechanic said that's crap and to have the trans flushed, filter changed and maybe add TransX. Any Input would be welcomed..thanx in advace.

A flush/service won't hurt anything that isn't already a problem. That being said, flushing changes all of the fluid. I'd usually suggest a service which is a pan drop, filter change and refill with about 7 quarts.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

sometimes a flush can do more harm, cause it mixes all those sediments and sometimes they end up in valves and wreck them, i would make sure pan gets dropped first. Use DEX 6

Just to reassure you, yes, get the fluid changed. Not changing tranny fluid is one of those urban car myths out there that mechanics must love. But plz take your car to an experienced reputable shop, tranny services can go wrong. The number one problem is they don’t fill the tranny back to the proper fluid level. When you get the car back, immediately check the fluid level yourself. Not when you get home, or never, do it before leaving their parking lot.

Ten years of continuous driving excitement and counting!
