After I took all the stock box out just to notice when I got it outside that it needs to be "recharged" since its a K&N. The hose clamp that I had was too small as well so I ended up putting the stock box back in till I can get the right clamp and a different filter. I would honestly rather buy a cheap Spectre dry filter than waste money on a recharge kit and mess with the oil thing all over again. Ha ha, never the less I wasted my time taking it apart LOL

By the way.. How do the 04+ guys mount the PCM when they take the airbox out? Do they keep the last piece the PCM itself sits in the corner or do they screw it down to the wheel-well or what?

my pcm has been sitting there for the better part of the past year and a half.

spectre would be better but you'd need to ensure that hose in the intake still has its place.

Well actually I think the short piece of intake air ducting will be suffiecent to hold the weight of the filter. I could be wrong though. I do not have the K&N kit for the car just a cone filter from them that I bought for my '95 Cougar. I did quite a bit of work to it.

Theres a small pipe coming from the PCV if i recall correctly that needs to be before the MAF but after the air filter.

    Again, if i recall correctly.

Other than that, you'd be setting yourself for a better than stock setup.

Yea, thats what I'm saying.. the pipe is still there. I know what you are talking about The PCM location is what concerned me the most. I just feel iffy letting it sit there on top of the bare metal bouncing and stuff after taking the airbox out so thats why I asked about mounting options. Thanks for your input by the way.

you should only have to remove the air filter section of the air box. the bottom half doesnt need to come out if your intake is short enough.

I took the grommets from the air box and put them into the holes on the body then let the pcm rest on those.

Ok, sunds good. When I get the nasty Dex-cool out of it I will be changing the thermostat to a 180* at the same time. Do these cars have a bleed off valve to let the air our of the cooling system to avoid air pockets?

you'll see it when you change the thermostat.

dex isn't bad if you change it and keep the air out.

    195 > 180 for fuel economy.

ZZP might have tested it, might have picked up a few HP with the 180?

When I did my intake I just stuck a spectre filter onto the stock tubing and the suspended it w/ a ziptie so it wasnt just hanging there. I ziptied the pcm down but got worried after like a week so I cut the airbox and just put the bottom part that the pcm sits in back in

Does Spectre even make a dry filter? I've always oiled them the same as a K&N, with a Spectre brand recharge kit. Actually, I use the Spectre kit on the K&N we have as well.

Yea I know that some do. I was hoping to find one that did not come oiled. Oh well I will be going to get a recharge kit for my K&N tomorrow and the correct hose clamp so I can get it on there. The end of my filter has a short threaded section and a small L bracket mounted on that so that it can be attached to something so I will probably use that to secure it. Thanks for the input guys.

If your worried about the PCM placement what I did was took the stock airbox and just cut where the filter was before right off (only do this if your not going back to stock filter) Then I still had where the PCM clipped in before and could securly attach it to the car. While allowing the filter to still flow freely

I'm getting a giggle out of the fact that you want a dry filter so you don't have to recharge it. Even a dry filter is going to need a cleaning sooner or later.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
