My ignition key wouldn't turn off all the way and key wouldn't come out.
The mechanic wanted $40 to disable it. He checked it and everything checked ok, thought it may have been loose batt cables. He still charged $40 or so and the next day the key stuck again.
I removed the Park Lock Solenoid:
2002 Grand Prix
Tilt wheel in up position.
Tilt wheel knob removal - mine is gray and pushes into a black housing. Able to remove knob by pulling it straight back. No clips, pins or screws hold it. Just used a firm grip on knob and pulled and it came out.
Torx bit (t20?) to remove 2 screws on bottom which hold plastic cover on column
Carefully remove lower plastic cover.
Park Lock Solenoid is the white thingy in front of the abs black square box.
PLS is held on by Reverse Torx screw. I was able to remove mine with a very small inition wrench and needle nose pliers but next time I encounter these I'll prob buy a reverse torx socket kit.
Once the screw is out, the PLS can be pried out with a flat tip screwdriver to depress the white plastic tab which holds the PLS to the column.
If you want better top access you can remove the top plastic column cover by removing the 2 reverse torx screws from underneath. One is easy to see and the other is up in there but easy to get to with a socket. The one on the left is a screw on the bottom so hold the black square extension with pliers or wrench.
The solenoid wire connector, black piece, can be pried from the white socket by prying up the white piece that holds it. There is an easier way I'm sure but this worked ok for me.
Reassemble w/o solenoid you just removed.
