Thread: Stupid Question: Can Park Avenue go in GP?

Alritey as some of you may know my GP L36 bit the dust, assuming it spun a bearing or something; either way there is definitely a rod knocking.
However, dad has found a 1993 Buick Park Avenue with a supercharged 3800. I told him I don't think it would work because (am I right?) it has Series I.

Are they interchangeable? I read that it only had 205 HP so it wouldn't be much of a gain at all anyway.

So all info. on the difference in those engines would be much appreciated

Um, alternatives: I thought about gettin block and heads from junk yard and puttin my L36 top end on it. Good/bad??

P.S. Since I'm gonna have to change motors I would prefer supercharged..but I just wanna get all my options laid out right now

Pick up an L67 (seriesII), they can be had for as little as $300 nowadays.. The Series I is a completely different motor and wouldn't be worth the effort to put in

series1 is obd1

series11 is obd2

wouldn't be worth the work to try, series 1 isn't that great

The OBD is the computer system running the motor. I've actually seen a couple guys put a Series I onto an OBDII system and had it run well.

Overall the SI is not that good of an idea. They are becoming outdated and parts/gaskets are tougher to find. Add to it that the majority of knowledge isn't behind that motor and it's not a gain from an NA motor...it's not a way I'd go...even if I had a free one.

For better alternatives at lower prices, take a look at an L26 motor. Many times they are super low mileage and cheaper than L36's.

alrite thanks guys. i'll be on the lookout for an L67 or L26! are they both pretty much a straight forward swap?

L26 would be an easier swap than the L67, but overall ...both are pretty well documented on the forums.
