Have you considered that it blows cold because the engine isn't warm yet?

i'll have to try that on my car, but could the cabin temp sensor be bad?

Actually, my thought was that it reads the outside temperature and adjusts accordingly.

Having recently installed a Viper 5901 into my 00 Regal, the basic principles of how this should work is that the remote starter powers up the wiring that gives the climate control and blower motor power. From there the climate control uses it's settings to heat/cool the car as it sees fit. Now with that out of the way... let's ask some further questions.

Is this your first cool season with the remote starter?

Not being familiar with the 05, I'd suggest checking the schematics to ensure the ambient (exterior) and interior temp sensors are being read by the climate controls when the remote is on. It might be that the circuit that supplies power/ground to the sensors isn't active and it's defaulting on cooling. The minute you put the key in and give the rest of the systems power, the sensors come alive and you get heat.
Maybe the actuators that control temp aren't being powered.
There are a lot of possibiliies which is why I ask...who installed it.

On my '05 with factory-installed RS, the climate controls are over-ridden when the RS is used. The fan goes to full-speed, and on hot days, the AC turns on. haven't tried it in the cold yet.

I tried RS on my car last night with the ambient around 45-50. Blows ice cold, even at full operating temp. After reading the manual, I think I've figured out the problem:

The RS system uses the outside ambient air temperature sensor to determine whether to heat or cool the car. I think this sensor is not equipped on cars that have the 3-button DIC (like mine), causing the system to default to AC mode. When I get around to calling Morad and updating to a 5-button DIC, I will be able to test this theory.

On other cars like sunfires that have no ambient sensors still disable the a/c when its cold out( they dont have factory remote starts so it must be to protect the compressor or something)...even my old one that I installed a/c using factory parts did the same. I think its something to do with the cycling switch knowing the temp.

So with this is a possibilty that the climate control will turn on the heat when the pcm data says the a/c is disabled this would eliminate the need for a sensor on 3 button models...with the 5 button dic I would imagine this will override all this and make it more accurate for choosing the temp.

Since its now quite cold out, I learned something about the HVAC during remote-starts:

If I start my car in the morning near or below freezing, it turns on the front and rear defrosters. After driving the car for a while, if I use remote start again, it turns on the AC. Keep in mind my car has the 3-button DIC. I think what is happening is that the only temperature references the car has are the coolant sensor, and the intake air temp sensor, both of which are skewed by running the car. I'm going to try installing just the ambient air temp sensor on my car and see if that fixes it.

Im actually having this same issue. It doesnt get that cold here in AZ but on the cooler nights, i dont want to hop into a freezing car...I have a 5 Button DIC and when i use the remote start, sometimes it comes on and sometimes it doesnt. I've noticed that it cant have anything to do with the outside temps because at times, i have had it come on when its freezing out and other times, it didnt activate and it was a lil toasty out. So im lost...
