I got the beginnings of an exhaust leak at the catalytic converter and was thinking of just getting rid of it and welding in some pipe. Does anyone know if this will throw the check engine light. Any negative effects and how much louder will it be?

u can get a plug in sensor to fake a code from the rear o2 sensor or get it tuned to avoud the light coming on and do the resonator while your at it..itll get raspy though

I got under it yesterday and the leak is actually coming from what looks to be some type of resonator. It is a long piece that is long and round with a seam along the side. Is this the resonator and if it is removed with it toss the check engine?

I would replace it with a glass pack muffler.

Removing the resonator makes it sound like poo. A glasspack will fix that.

Don't ever delete the resonator...it makes the exhaust note drone on the highway and gives your exhaust rasp...which you dont want. Deleting the cat and keeping the resonator sounds great...especially if you get rid of the stock resonator with a big glasspack...probably about 26+ inches.
