Has anyone had a problem like this? When I am going 55-60mph and apply the brakes, there is a thumping noise that is related to wheel speed. I can feel it in the steering wheel and on the brake pedal, and it just feels like its coming from the front end. When I am going slower speeds, say less than 30mph, there isnt any thumping noise unless I am applying the brakes hard. I have looked at the front brake pads/rotors, and everything looks fine. The steering wheel doesn't pulsate back and forth like the rotors are warped, and I have never heard a noise like this before, but I've never owned a front wheel drive car before either. Please point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Hmmm, could possibly be the motor/trans mount. Mine made a pretty bad thumping noise when braking(1/2 pedal or more) when my bottom motor mount was shot. What it was, is when I hit the brakes, the engine would shake back and forth in the engine bay, causing the noise.

Simple thing to do is just check all your mounts, especially if they are all stock.

thanks....the thumping is pretty rapid, so I'm guessing the motor or trans wouldnt be shaking that bad or the car would fall apart....i'll check the abs sensor thing

Could be a warped rotor too. You would feel it in the Pedal though.

Well I thought it was going to be a rotor at first too.....its kind of hard to explain the noise/feel of it. Imagine a groove across the rotor, and a similar sized crossways protruding part of the brake pad. When you brake, its like the protrusion is hitting that groove every time the wheel goes around.

Fixed it tonight.....after some detail diagnosing, I replaced both rear brake rotors and brake pads, and its great now. It was very deceptive as it felt/sounded like it was coming from the front of the car, but actually was coming from the rear.
