its not worth the time and money
too much engine for a small bay
Its not that people are scared of it, its the fact that there is little to no after market for it, costs too much, over heats, no room in the engine bay.
Little to no after market I get a kick out of that everytime I see it their ARE aftermarket heads, cams, intakes, headers, exhaust, for these cars and also turbo kits available too. Over heating? pretty sure that issue can be fixed pretty easy too tho I havnt seen anything on ls1tech.com else where about people saying this. The biggest concern is transmissions which really isnt any different than modded 3800 cars people wreck transmission with those too.
I've seen a site a while (meaning years years) ago from someone who swapped a LS4 into a 2000-ish Monte Carlo. I can't find it any more, but from what I remember there was a lot of fabrication involved to get it to fit (e.g. I believe I remember the radiator support had to be moved forward about 2"). So it is possible, but the benefits don't justify the cost unless you really value being different.
The 97-03 bodystyle grandprixs have the same engine bays as the 04+ Grand Prixs the bodys style change was cosmetic, the chassis is the same. And to the last guy that posted if you'd look on the the first page of this thread their is a pic of a LS6 V8 in a dark blue 2001 grand prix. So way to go about not reading the thread very well aparently. As for moving the radiator support what for? That LS6 swap was done before the 05 GXP came out the OEM parts from a GXP would fit in a 97-03 Wbody!! Including all the suspension, seats engine, transmission, brakes wheels, ect. Oh and the engine bay and radiator support is OEM in that LS6 swap they just bolted it in and wired it all to work. The link with more info about the swap was posted as well. This swap would be much much easier now that the GXP, Monte SS, Lacross Super, and Impala SS have came out. It would really be as simple as getting a donor LS4 and a 97-03 shell and then wire it all to work. Tuning and wiring would be the hardest part! No need to modify the shell at all either.
LS6 was in a monte and that was a custom dart racing block that STILL had to be modified.
My point is a LS4 cradle from a GXP impala SS Monte SS Lacross Super would fit right in a 97-03 Shell with ZERO modification to the shell. Just wiring and tuning is all that would be needed.
ehh Not worth it just to be diff imo too many folks wanna be diferent these days stick a 5.0 mod engine in it be diferent
I can build a l67 to be faster and reliable for less then that swap will be.
Plus when you swap engines like that it means suspension work and fabrication and so on definatly not worth it
Suspension and fabrication work like what?? GXP uses Bilstien struts and they fit the 97-03 Wbodies just fine. Most people that do that notice the obvious the car will sit higher due to the different spring rate than say a GTP. Zero mods need to be done to the shell. Cradle engine trans, suspension, CV shafts, brakes, seats, would all bolt right in a 97-03 Wbody. The most difficult part work be wiring and tuning. Which I wouldnt even attempt the swap unless I had an entire wrecked GXP to use as parts. Ill bet given a wrecked GXP and a Shell this swap could be done with out a welder.
